CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has revealed the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, featuring substantial upgrades to their cameras, performance capabilities, and battery life. Both models are equipped with a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera that boasts a variable aperture. Additionally, they incorporate the latest A20 Pro chip and an improved vapor chamber cooling system. The company has also redesigned the Dynamic Island to display more detailed information. Preorders open on September 12, with sales commencing on September 18 across over 65 countries and regions.

The upgraded Main camera employs six laser-cut blades to transition smoothly among four aperture settings, allowing users to adjust depth of field and light intake within the Camera app. Pro controls now include manual options for shutter speed and white balance, while a histogram assists in monitoring exposure before capturing photos or videos. New Photographic Styles feature added texture and grain controls. The devices support post-capture Cinematic effects on videos recorded at up to 60 frames per second.

An innovative feature called Apple Reference Image offers a way to verify if photos have been altered after shooting. When taking a picture with the Main camera, signed sensor data is recorded in reference mode. This information is processed into a reference image via Private Cloud Compute, enabling users to compare it with the original photo within the Photos app. Apple also plans to introduce support for SynthID later in 2026. The company states that image metadata will serve as an additional method to identify AI-generated or edited images.

Variable aperture expands camera control options

Built on a 2-nanometer process, the A20 Pro combines a six-core CPU with a seven-core GPU. Apple claims the GPU offers performance up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro. The chip also features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, totaling 32 cores. Its redesigned thermal system connects the processor directly to a larger vapor chamber, which has three times the surface area of previous versions. This configuration is designed to enhance sustained performance during intensive tasks.

Battery life has been improved in both models, especially in eSIM-only variants. The iPhone 18 Pro supports up to 36 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max can reach up to 45 hours under similar conditions. Wired accessories can charge the Pro model to 50% in approximately 15 minutes. The eSIM-only models eliminate the physical SIM tray, occupying that space differently. These versions will debut in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

Siri AI integration arrives with iOS 27

The iPhone 18 Pro series runs on iOS 27 and supports the latest Apple AI features. Siri AI enters beta on September 14 for supported devices configured in English, with support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish following in October. Siri AI can utilize personal context from messages, email, and photos to answer queries. It can also respond to on-screen information. Cloud-based tasks are handled via Private Cloud Compute, while other functions are processed directly on the device.

Pricing starts at $1,199 in the United States for the iPhone 18 Pro, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max begins at $1,299. Customers can choose from storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. Available finishes include black, silver, glacier, and burgundy. Preorders will begin at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12, with retail sales starting on September 18 in the initial markets, followed by another 20 countries and regions on September 25.
